9630 Cyclone Frame Didymium Lens Glasses sfp demo
Enhanced Didymium

As the name implies, these are enhanced Didymium (we carry 202ACE) glass working glasses. These lenses block bright yellow flare, but not much UV and no IR.

Most soft glass beadmakers use these filtering lenses. You may require additional UV and IR protection, but this is your call. If you do, we recommend the Green ACE IR glasses to the right.

Not sure how much protection you require? Click Hereto see a NIOSH report. Read Discussion and Conclusion and Recommendations at the bottom of the report.

Sodium Flare Poly (SFP)

The Sodium Flare Polycarbonate lens is the sister lens to the 202ACE Glass Lenses. The Sodium Flare Polycarbonate lens is a very effective filter for sodium flare absorption in addition to providing excellent ultraviolet (UV) protection up to 390 mm.

The Sodium Flare lens is becoming a preferable choice of soft glass workers in the industry due to its excellent absorption, light weight and durability. Not only is it very comfortable for viewing under high ambient light conditions, but it also allows a high Visible Light Transmission permitting you to see in any lighting situation.

This filter has a recommended use of lampworking on soft glass types, neon working, and any other industries that need a Sodium Flare filtration without IR protection. This lens has very little IR absorption. If you need IR absorption, please use a Boroview Shade 3 or 5 lenses.

Green ACE IR
(Formerly Boroscopes)

These are the glasses that offer complete protection against solar flare, UV rays and IR rays. The superior Green ACE IR lenses combine the protective properties of Phillips 202ACE didymium lenses and the IR. Pick shade 2, 3 or 5 welding lenses to offer this complete protection against solar flare, UV rays and IR rays all in one pair of glasses

These lenses are also available in split lense glasses, with Enhanced Didymium (202ACE) on top for better vision and Green ACE IR on bottom for more protection.

Split Lens Top 1/3 Enhanced Didymium, Bottom 2/3 Shade 3 Boroscope Glasses
IR Shade 2, 3 or 5

These block UV and IR rays, but not the yellow flare; you'll still need didymium lens glasses for that. Most borosilicate hard glass workers use lenses that filter all three; yellow flare, UV and IR.

We have three ways to add UV and IR protection to your didymium glasses.

1) Clip on lenses - see above picture. These clip ons are listed further down this page.
2) Fit over glasses - large frames that fit over most prescription glasses. See further down this page for more information.

3) Or use the Green ACE IR - Pictured in the column to the right. These lenses block UV rays, IR rays and solar flare all in one pair of glasses.

921B Boroscope Lens Rec Specs MAXX Silver Frame GlassesMore about GreenACE IR formally Boroscopes
Green ACE IR are designed to meet the need for the extra UV and IR protection needed when working on borosilicate glass. Green ACE IR are specially formulated glass filter lenses that the manufacture exclusively owns. These lenses have been developed for the lampworking and glassblowing markets. This revolutionary product is greatly lighter than conventional laminated products and comes in a full coverage lens which is a higher quality design because there are no areas without shading. Green ACE IR should be worn when working on hard glass types where regular didymium lenses are not adequate due to the fact of insufficient filtration of ultra violet and infrared absorption.
Liability Disclaimer:
We are not optometrists and can only make suggestions concerning eye protection. There are many types of eye protection available. The manufacture and Sundance Art Glass does not accept any liability concerning eye damage arising from the use, misuse, or non-use of any eyewear products we sell. We can only recommend the highest level of protection.

These are not Didymiums. Usually used in combination with the didymium glasses shown above on this page. Using the below glasses is an inexpensive way to add more protection to the above didymiums. It is common for people working with borosilicate glass, (when the flame is extra bright, or when fuming metals onto the glass) to use the below glass in conjunction with didymium. The below glasses provides good UV and IR protection that Didymiums do not provide. Price

Visor - Includes:
Shade 3 Shield and Headgear
Protects against flying glass and the shade 3 blocks lots of the UV and IR (but non of the Yellow Flare, use didymium glasses for that) - use proper filtering eyewear as usual. Also protects the face from sunburn from the flame. Also protection from fuming gold or silver. The metal actually "explodes" and invisible metal shoots off in all directions and into your face. What's the difference between Shade 3 or 5? Click Here to see a chart of the differences. You will notice minimal difference in UV and IR protection between shades but a whole lot of reduced visibility as the shade darkens.

Shade 5 Shield and Headgear
Protects against flying glass and the shade 5 blocks lots of the UV and IR (but non of the Yellow Flare, use didymium glasses for that). Remember the darker shade 5 provides more protection than the above shade 3 but is darker to look through. Use proper filtering eyewear as usual. Also protects the face from sunburn from the flame. Also protection from fuming gold or silver. The metal actually "explodes" and invisible metal shoots off in all directions and into your face. What's the difference between Shade 3 or 5? When fuming, the metal actually "explodes" and invisible microscopic metal shoots off in all directions at 60 miles per hour imbedding in walls and your in your face.
