Pattern Bars
for Glass Fusing

 What is a Pattern Bar?

A pattern bar is simply a group of different colored glass pieces fused together into a long shape. This long shape is then cut into chips, typically with a diamond saw. This makes many similar small identical glass pieces which can than be used in a fusing project.

Pattern Bar Holders

How do you make a pattern bar? Fill the trough on these forms with thin strips of glass, stacking them so a design is made when viewed from the side. You can also use frit by filling the trough with alternating colors to make a design. Snap on the end cap so the glass remains in the form when it gets molten. Full fuse the glass, and because of the thickness, anneal and cool slowly,. Use a diamond saw to cut slices from the pattern bar. Your result will be identical chips or slices of glass. What do you do with the pattern bar pieces? Use them as an element in your fused projects. Make a fish pattern for an underwater scene, a signature chip to sign your pieces, or make an entire plate from repetitive patterned pieces!
