The WildCat Burner
for Glass Lampworkers, Beadmakers, Flameworkers,
Glassblowers and Marblemakers

Standard models require two valves which are located on the back of the WildCat Burner.
Built into the end of the WildCat burner is the Vortex cooling feature. This feature uses pressurized oxygen from the oxygen manifold to inspirate atmospheric air through the collar at the end of the burner. The mixture of oxygen and air both support the flame and cool the end of the burner. The more oxygen used, the more effective this cooling feature becomes. If the WildCat is found to be overheating, inspect the cooling features porting to ensure that there are no blockages.
The WildCat has a very unique flame. Please note that based on the operator's prior burner experience, the flame settings may not look or sound as expected. The unique flame properties of the torch demonstrate superior performance. As such, until the operator becomes familiar with these unique properties, he/she should test out reactions with glass to determine whether the flame is reducing, neutral, or oxidizing.
For use with soft glass, Carlisle recommends a candle or focal length of 3/8". On a neutral setting, this will present a flame that is very hot and provides radiant heat around the flame. This radiant heat lessens the frequency of glass fractures due to temperature changes while moving in and out of the flame.
For use with hard glass, Carlisle recommends a candle or focal length of 3/4". Please note that a neutral setting of this flame may produce orange tips on the candles. However, as long as the candles are all the same length, this should not produce reduction on borosilicate colors.
Once a Neutral flame is achieved, adding more oxygen will produce the oxidizing flame. An oxidizing flame will make a more narrow flame pattern that can be used for more delicate work. It is important to note that the extra oxygen also has a cooling effect in the flame and will lower the heat potential.
You need the following studio equipment to use this torch:- Oxygen Regulator - Prices are below
- Propane Regulator - Prices are below
- Hose - Prices below - details and setup
- Oxygen and Propane Tanks - details
- This torch uses ¼" ID hose
Remember...
Surface mix tips work with all kinds of glass, soft and hard. This torch is a surface mix torch. Pre-Mix tips only work with borosilicate hard glass (Pyrex) but are faster working.

Gas Regulators
Two regulators are required when you use a two gas, (oxygen and propane) torch. They fit between the gas tanks and the gas hose. None are needed if you are using the Hot Head torch. Oxygen Regulator is not needed if you are using an Oxygen Concentrator.

Gas Hoses

Use this hose when you use a two gas torch (oxygen and propane). To attach torch, push the cut ends onto the torch and secure with a hose clamp. These are twin hose sets, one for oxygen and one for propane. The brass end of the hoses are attached to the gas regulators. Propane hose fittings are left handed threads and colored red and oxygen is right handed and colored green - This prevents a mix-up when attaching hoses.
CAUTION Do not use the easy to find oxygen/acetylene type hoses. The propane gas will rot them. The hoses we sell are made for all types of gas including propane. Hose ends have female brass fittings.
The below larger diameter hose is only used if when you need a large hose to fit over the large inlet fittings on some torches. (You can get the smaller 1/4" hose listed above on these large inlet fittings with a bit of effort. A trick is to immerse the end of the hose in very hot water to soften the end.)
Y - Connectors for Hose

Y Connector - Connect this fitting at the output of the regulator and attach two hoses so you can use two torches from the same tank. Oxygen and propane Y are packaged and priced separately.
Y Connector with valves - Same as the Y connector described above except has two on/off valves, one for each hose.
* The FA30 connects between the regulator and the gas hose and is more commonly used.

Flashback Arrestors

In some rare situations, a flame can travel back down a hose to the gas tank and cause an explosion.
This device helps prevent this reverse gas flow and flashback by using a reverse flow check valve and a flame arrestor.
Packaged and priced with both an oxygen and a propane arrestor.
Leak Detection Fluid
Hose Quick Connects

Makes an easy job out of disconnecting and reconnecting your torch.
Disconnect your torch switching to a different torch or to put it away for safe keeping.
Great for quick classroom set up and take down.
Manifold Gas System

Connect up to six torches to the same gas supply with this manifold system. Included are enough fittings and plugs to make 2 to 6 hose connections. Two manifolds are required, one for oxygen and one for propane. All Brass.
Custom Manifold Systems:
We can help you figure out which parts you would need for your system and pre assemble for no extra charge. Systems might also include quick connects and flashback arrestors.
